A selection of locally grown protea including the magnificent “King Protea”
Waratah, banksia and South African proteas are gathered together on a 1950s Italian velvet rug brought to Australia by Italian immigrants. The flowers share an ancient botanical family despite their distant origins, while the rug carries the story of people bringing a fragment of their former home with them. Together, these elements reflect my fascination with how histories, places and identities are carried forward, transformed and woven into a new sense of belonging.
